I have my red and brown ignition wire connected together so I can run the bike without master switch. Will this still allow the lighting to work.? tholme1

Only problem I see is, by passing the key switch, the battery will drain sooner because it will be feeding 6v to all your lighting (except headlamp & tail lamp) vs turning off the power source at the switch.
Keep in mind, the tail light and headlamp have their own power source (lighting coil), and only operate (illuminate) when the motor is running.

Mine had a togel switch. I mentioned wiring them together so he could fire the bike, as he has no ignition switch. I only recomend this as a temporary fix.

Mine had the cind you get from the local auto parts store. (If you were running high voltage or amprage, then yes you would need a special switch.) Did you read my "ignition ...... cheap fix" thread? Because you could get a difrant 80s Yamaha ignition & change the connector. ysrridersunite.proboards84.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1189226384Hay YSRCALI My stock YSR tail light has always worked without starting the bike. Only the headlight is powered by the lighting coil. (the only wiring that has ever been messed with is the turnsignal mod, replaceable headlight mod, Fog light & adding the LED plate lights + front lights)

If you plan to use a toggle switch (kill switch), wire it up to the black wire from the harness (of the three wires), which is ground. That is typically how the motor is wired to the key switch, aka kill switch. The Red (IN/ from battery) & Brown (OUT/ to electronics) wire is the power source.
The tail light (AC powered) will power up without the battery (as long as the motor is running), because it shares the same power source as the headlamp. The brake light (DC powered), however, get it's power from the battery.

thanks again for the info. I have a new top end in my 89 50 and a brand new 20mm carb kit from t.c.r. I had a rad shop reline my tank and I have a new petthingy valve that I have to install. The screws for the petthingy valve I don,t have, and when I looked up the part in the book it had said {spcl shape} so I am assuming that this means some type of special screw that I would have to purchase from Yamaha.? I purchased this bike in March and it had the top end rebuilt with 0 miles I have just been trying to add parts as my budget allows and I am getting closer to being able to fire it up. I still need to aquire a pipe that will compliment the carb and air intake. If some could give me the info on how to properly bleed the oil injection pump that would be great. M y idea was to mix premix fuel and add a little to the tank and then once the bike is running hold a cup under the injector at the output line that attaches to the intake on the carb and run it untill the oil ran steady.? thanks tholme1

Ill see if I can get the info downloaded, by monday for you on bleeding the oil injector.
As for the L.E.D. Its not to hard to make one work. You just need to use the correct bulbs. You should be able to get what you need @ Radio Shack. They can usualy help you figure out the correct way to serries or parrealel the bulbs if you are doing multipuls. meds are kicking in so I got to get off here for now......
