So, here is my story. I have a 1990 YSR that has an aftermarket pipe on it. I bought it as a stripped down racer that I converted back to street. I took it out for its first run and it shuts down in high gear. Confused, I messed with fuel ratio and now it sounds crispy. Gets there faster, but still shuts off. My next attempt had me installing a K&N airfilter. It woke up and really rips, but it still shuts off in high gear. I have had quite a few 2-strokes and I never experienced this problem. It bogs down. I can put it in a lower gear and rev the balls off of it, but as soon as it idles down a little. boom, it's over. Leave it in gear and open the throttle, it kicks on and off till it runs out of go. I just need some advice. I have a 250cc 4-stroke idea in mind, but I just want to run it stock for now until I get the funds to make it my own. Please help. Anyone. I'm stuck.

Have you checked your float level? My motorcycle mechanic friend sais it sounds like that sort of a problem.

I unfortunately don't have a dial caliper to check it's level. Any backyard mechanic tips to check that. I messed with the carbs again yesterday. It runs a little longer know. Maybe i will bend the floats a little more. It's time consuming, but what the hey, right.
