Quite some time back, I was into pocket bikes (just as the Chinese bikes were coming out) and enjoyed the hell out of them, not the Chinese bikes, I was all about Polini. What pissed me off was the centrifugal clutch shoes were so prone to delaminating that a person could blow $60 in 10 min if you weren’t careful. So the bikes were retired to show pieces in my house (nothing like $3000 worth of over sized models) and I looked to get something bigger.
We had raced on the same track as YSRs and Motards with Roland’s group in Vancouver BC, so I fell in love with what the YSR is. Plus the tires and other various parts were the SAME PRICE as Polini! So I happened to mention to a guy, that knew a guy, that had a son (you following?), who had his YSR taken from him for being a dumb ass on it. So for the tidy sum of $300 I got a YSR. Well it was a YSR with at GT80 motor dropped in.
So I took it home and rode it around a few times. On a short trip to the park and back it slooowed down to a stop. Ahh hell, I knew the top end had seized. So long story short the guy that went to bore out the cylinder had something break and the cutting tool ‘opened’ up to take a chunk out of the cylinder. So to shorten the story further…I have three bottom ends, 4 cylinders, 3 heads, 4 NOS pistons and a bike that didn’t run for 3 years as I ran out of cash. I was rather pissed.
I had just sold a VW bug for a net profit of $700 and a Honda CB350 for $325 and wanted to get my bike up and running for my self as well as the wife who has her endorsement, but is nervous about large bikes. Well about two weeks ago I was jumping around Craigslist and came upon a YSR for $600 with a spare rolling chassis and a disassembled water cooled motor that mounted in the roller. I couldn’t help my self and got it. So now I’m in the process of getting the bikes cleaned up and getting the first YSR’s motor back into her.
Anyone in the Spokane area that has YSR interests let me know.
Here is a link to an old website that really never went anywhere but you can see some of my other 'toys'. Please don't ask me about the GSXR-1100. I still have it, and its still a sore spot for me.
