Well, my name's Crystal and I'm in the Toledo, OH area. I don't have a YSR yet but I'm looking to get one. I have a Ninja 500 but I'm tiny and it's big and cumbersome even lowered. I was talking to some guys at the local dealership and they let me in on this secret little bike when I asked about the little Honda NSR 50 they used to have. I sat on the NSR a while back but didn't have the cash at the time and with it not being street legal I wasn't so sure about the hassle to make it that way. I'm looking to pick up a YSR in the next couple months and I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions. If you guys have any tips you wanna throw out there about the bikes, I'm all ears (or is it eyes since it's on a web page?) Just to give you an idea, I'm a whole 4'10 90 lbs and this is how big I make a ninja 500 look:

Welcome! Having a YSR makes a great second bike, in your case. It will be fun to take out around town, from time to time. As for your Ex500, consider having the seat shaved down a bit. That will definately help touching the ground. I am like you, vertically challenged (5' 2"). Therefore, there are not a whole lot of BIG bikes for us to choose from Btw, I used to have a Ninja 250, but sold it to buy an 04 NSR 50 to race. I currently have two mini's, a YSR (Derbi/Metrakit powered) and the NSR (plated). One day, I will again have an ex250......believe it or not, I miss that bike and wish I had never sold it

Well, I beat you to it... seat is a very very shaved down corbin, back end is dropped down about 2" and trying to bring down the front a bit more. I know if I sold it I'd regret it, so the b/f is going to learn on it while I get back to riding with the ysr. I figure once we've both got more street time under our belts he can get the F6 he wants and then I can go to town customizing the 500. Bodywork's my thing, so it's really just a matter of imagination

Nice and Congrats! Is it still oil injected or you have to Premix (mix 2-stroke oil w/ gas @ 32:1)? Either way, use Yamalube, and never use the cheap stuff. Here's some tips to keep your motor longer...... Not sure if you ever owned a 2-stroker before, any ways, be sure to shift in the upper rpm range. 2-strokers power is in the mid to upper rpm range When parked, stored and or not ridden, ALWAYS turn the pet-cok (fuel on/off knob) to the OFF position. Not doing so, it can be a pita at a start cold. But don't forget to switch it to ON when going out for a ride And speaking of cold start, use the choke.....if you haven't learned already. But don't forget to push it in after warm-up (when pipe starts to feel warm or hot to the touch) Avoid holding throttle "wide open" (WOT) for long periods of time. 2-strokers top-end last longer using varied throttle (on & off). Be sure to do a "plug chop", to ensure your air/fuel mixture is set correctly. Your plug should read chocolate brown, and never white! any sign of white is bad (too lean). If white, turn in the air/fuel screw on the carb 1/4 turn, or as necessary till brown color is achieved. Color Black is too rich (turn OUT, as necessary). For any expert info, parts and or rebuilds for your YSR, call Team Calimari Racing (TCR). They have been in the YSR business since the YSR was first released here state side (1987), and they know their stuff.

Hi & welcome to the site. Congrats on the new YSR. My wife is 5' 4" & rides a YSR also. The local shops refuse to sell a sport bike to anyone under 5' 5"! (Guess she wont be wanting a New bigger sport bike. ;D Saves me money.)
